Welcome to Our Facilities

Working in collaboration and/or under the direction of our two area orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Rosenberg, and Dr. Benz, Porter Hospital offers a coordinated approach to rehabilitation services.  This multidisciplinary approach includes the physicians at Orthopedics and other area physicians, Addison County Home Health and Helen Porter Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, as well as nurses and therapists at Porter Hospital.

“PROS” is part of the Porter Medical Center Team. We have facilities at the hospital and satellite clinics at Catamount Park in Middlebury and the Primary Care – Brandon building in Brandon. We are dedicated to providing you with the very best Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech/Language Pathology services possible. You will find highly skilled professionals on our staff who will work with you to help you attain the most benefit from your prescribed outpatient and inpatient therapy.

Physical Therapy

Licensed Physical Therapists use physical and manual methods of treatment to promote the healing of physical ailments. Some treatments used in Physical Therapy are ultrasound, electrical stimulation, aquatic therapy, lymphedema therapy, exercise, manual therapy techniques, and traction. Physical Therapists emphasize patient education and home exercises which places control of the rehabilitation in the hands of the patient.

Occupational Therapy

Licensed Occupational Therapists work with patients that range in age from pediatrics to geriatrics, who have difficulty completing activities of daily living due to a physical disability, an injury, a learning disability, or developmental disability. Many times purposeful activities are used to improve patients’ range of motion, muscle strength, endurance, and cognitive/perception (thinking and visualizing). OT is experienced in the fit and fabrication of customized splints for hand injuries, and the rehabilitation of fine motor and visual motor
skills.

Speech Therapy

Registered Speech Pathologists use speech and language devices and techniques to improve the communication abilities in patients with speech and language deficits. They also work with people with swallowing difficulties. Speech Pathologists strive to provide patients with the means necessary to communicate with others for personal and social reasons.

Your Evaluation

In order to plan a therapy program with you which best meets your rehabilitation needs, your therapist must do an assessment of your condition. A thorough evaluation usually takes about one hour, depending on your diagnosis. Please let your therapist know which goals are most important to you. The frequency of your treatments and a timetable for accomplishing your goals will be discussed with you.

Your Treatments

Your therapist will be certain that the therapy offered to you is in keeping with your recovery goals. We recognize that your rehabilitation program should be sensitive to your needs. For successful results, we urge you to keep your regular appointments and to maintain an independent program at home.

Discharge from Therapy

You will be involved in developing your discharge plan to be certain your continued rehabilitation program fits your needs and expectations. We will try to achieve goals set at the initial evaluation, but you may continue independently at home to recover full function.

Ongoing Satisfaction

Your satisfaction with our services is extremely important to us. Please make us aware of any problems you have while in therapy and after discharge.

Insurance Coverage

Many insurance plans have limited coverage for therapy services and some do not cover certain services. If you are unsure of your coverage, please contact your insurance company or call the Porter Business Office. If you are not covered, you may be responsible for therapy costs.
