Porter Medical Center is a non-profit health care system located in Middlebury, Vermont. Porter Medical Center and its subsidiary corporations are organized for the primary purpose of providing medical and long-term care services for residents of a broad service area encompassing Addison County, northern Rutland County, northeastern New York State, students and staff of Middlebury College and visitors to the area.

Our caring and professional staff provide 24-hour emergency services and comprehensive medical care.

Improving the Health Status of our Communities, Porter Medical Center:

  • Is a charter member of the Vermont Child Care Counts Honor Roll  
  • Has been recognized annually by the Child Care Fund of Vermont for policies which support our employees in securing appropriate child care services  
  • Supports the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure  
  • Has been awarded annual grants from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for innovative programs supporting mammography services for area women  
  • Provides annual financial support, rent free clinic space and vouchers for no-cost ancillary services to our local "Open Door Clinic".
Porter Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Services (PROS) Working in collaboration and/or under the direction of our two area orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Benz, Porter Hospital offers a coordinated approach to rehabilitation services. This multidisciplinary approach includes the physicians at Champlain Valley Orthopedics and other area physicians, Addison County Home Health and Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, as well as nurses and therapists at Porter Hospital. New Hospitalist Program at Porter

Porter Hospital has established a new “Hospitalist” program that will begin in October. The purpose of the Hospitalist program is to provide the highest quality, coordinated and consistent services to individuals who are admitted to the Medical/Surgical Unit at the hospital. A primary care provider will have appropriate communication with the Hospitalist physician who will care for each patient as an inpatient, but he or she will not be directly managing the care on a day-today basis during a hospitalization. At the September annual meeting of the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center was recognized with the 2011 “Community Service Award”. ARCH OPEN HOUSE
There was an open house on Sept. 15, 2011 to introduce the new end-of-life option at HPHRC. According to PMC President, James L. Daily, Addison Respite Care Home (ARCH) is an organization that has established a new end-of-life care room at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center as a joint/ collaborative effort. “We believe that this is the first and only such respite room located within a long-term care facility in Vermont,” Daily said.  More...

Basic Diabetes Education Program This 3-hour class is offered twice a month for people with newly diagnosed diabetes and their family or people who need to brush up on their diabetes management. 388-4723

Diabetes Support Groups American Heart Association CPR courses and basic First Aid taught by certified instructors. May be geared to specific requirements. 388-4723

lifelinePorter Lifeline Program is a secure personal medical alert emergency response service for seniors and caregivers, helping elderly and disabled live with greater independence. Falls and medication errors are the two biggest threats to independent living. Lifeline Medical alert can automatically call for help.   More info...
