First Positive COVID-19 Patient in Addison County

Message to Porter Community from Porter Medical Center

I am writing to share with you that earlier this evening we learned from the Vermont Department of Health that an individual in our community has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

The patient was screened via telemedicine, tested via our new “PMC Drive Through Testing” service and sent home to self-isolate per CDC guidelines. Upon receiving the positive test result, the patient’s provider notified the individual. The patient has agreed to remain at home per clinical guidelines. The Vermont Department of Health will follow their protocol and continue monitoring.

As you know from our communications over the past several days, our emergency response plans are in place, and our PMC team has been working to deliver the best care possible for our hospital and PMG patients and our Helen Porter residents, while limiting staff exposure to the virus.

Porter Medical Center is working diligently to prepare in order to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two weeks ago, PMC stood up a command center to direct our organization’s response. I want to recognize our PMC team of professionals, who are steadfast and deeply committed to assuring that our patients and community receive the best care possible.

Thank you all for your hard work and commitment to our community as we continue to work together through these challenging times.
