Porter Medical Center Orthopedics was founded in 2002 when Dr. Ben Rosenberg, who had practiced orthopedic surgery in Middlebury since 1993 was joined by Dr. Eric Benz. Practicing out of a centrally-located office in Middlebury, we provide orthopedic care to the communities of Addison County, as well as Chittenden and Rutland Counties, Vermont’s Mad River Valley and large areas of upper New York state on the western shores of Lake Champlain.
We serve as the primary orthopedic consultants to the students, faculty and staff of Middlebury College. Orthopedics provides orthopedic emergency care to Porter Hospital in Middlebury, and all emergency and elective surgery is performed at Porter Hospital.
Porter Medical Center Mission
Our mission at Orthopedics is to provide excellent orthopedic specialty care to our community and to serve as an education resource for musculoskeletal problems for patients and primary care providers.
Our Patient Care Philosophy
We believe that each patient is unique. Just as no one shoe fits all, we believe that no one form of medical treatment fits all patients. After first getting to know our patients, we seek to educate them about all available treatment options for their problem. Then together we choose a treatment plan to meet their individual needs.
We strive to:
- Provide patients with honest, informed and unbiased recommendations regarding non-surgical and surgical treatments, their implications and outcomes.
- Not try to “sell” patients on any one procedure or course of treatment.
- Involve the patient and his/her family or representative in decision making.
- Work together with primary care providers, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, worker’s compensation case managers, social workers and family representatives to share pertinent information and provide a comprehensive care plan for the patient.
