What women can do for themselves….
Early detection and treatment are your best protection. This is best accomplished by doing the following routinely:

Breast Self Exam
For women over 20 years of age, this should be done monthly. If you are unsure of how to do this check with your primary care physician. He/She will help teach you the skills you need to be comfortable with the self-exam routine.

Mammograms
For women 40-50 years of age, have a mammogram every 1-2 years, depending on your risk factors. For all women over 50 years of age, yearly mammogram is recommended. If you are not sure how often you should be having mammograms, talk with your primary care provider.

Clinical Breast Exam
Performed by your primary care provider and recommended yearly for all women 20 years of age or older.
